The Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault started in 1986, is the only place in Central Virginia that specializes in treatment for victims of sexually based crimes such as: sexual assault, sexual abuse, stalking, and sexual harassment. Certified and Trained Counselors Our counselors are certified and trained in trauma treatment and work with more than 400 victims a year; half of these are children. With treatment, we are able to successfully restore emotional health to children and adults, both male and female. Caring Holistic Approach We take a holistic approach of working with the entire family. Beyond individual treatment, we have group therapy sessions for children, teens, men, women, and families of survivors. Prevention and Education We have education programs that support the prevention of sexual abuse. We train teachers and guidance counselors for the "SAFEDATES," "Choose Respect," and "In Touch with Teens." |

The Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault started in 1986 as the Fredericksburg Area Rape Crisis Center - FARCC. It was started by four women who received a grant through HOTLINE to provide services to rape victims. They then split to form FARCC as a stand alone agency. FARCC started with one employee, one intern and volunteers. In 1988, FARCC was restructed to become The Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault to serve sexual assault and the entire of planning district 16. From these early efforts, RCASA has evolved to provide extensive counseling, education, and professional training. It is amazing to see how closely we have held to the goals and ideals that first established the organization. It is also amazing to see the ways in which the Center has grown. The legacy of continues to live on in the success stories of the clients we help heal and in the educational outreach programs we provide to the Central Virginia and Rappahannock Area community today. |
